The Triangle Youth Jazz Ensemble, a community-based band sponsored by the Philharmonic Association, was selected as one of three top groups at The 35th Carolina Jazz Festival, North Carolina Regional Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Festival at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The jazz festival drew high school big bands and combos from Durham, Cary, Kannapolis, Elizabeth City, Raleigh, and Martinsville VA.
The adjudicators were Steve Wilson from Christian McBride?s Inside Straight Quartet, Jim Gasior from the New World School of the Arts High School Jazz Ensemble, Dan Davis and Jason Foureman from UNC-CH.
Three TYJE members were also selected as outstanding performers. They include Hannah Grantham, vocalist, Carly Abney playing baritone saxophone, and Josh Scarborough, performing on clarinet.
Led by Dr. Gregg Gelb, TYJE will be performing for Jazz Appreciation Month at the North Carolina Museum of History at 3:00 on April 22nd and midday for Raleigh?s Artsplosure Festival on May 20th.
