Department Description
The Finance IT support and Change team is responsible for:
the delivery of system and accounting changes that result when the Bank changes its business operations;
the day to day maintenance of the key systems that support Finance?s operation
providing expert analytical, change management and testing support for the programme of business as usual improvements across the division as a whole.
The team also supports the Chief Financial Accountant in setting standards across the Bank.
This can take the form of new products (e.g. Commercial Paper), new business streams (eg the Asset Purchase Scheme) or system upgrades (Openlink, T-24 and CODA).
Brief Description
The Bank of England, as the United Kingdom?s central bank, exists to ensure both monetary and financial stability.
This role is a 12 month contract position that will provide the Finance IT support team with Cognos developer experience. In addition it is expected that this role will also be responsible for managing the delivery of system maintenance releases and team output.
As part of the role, the individual will be expected to be involved in the CODA upgrade project which is currently being planned for Q3 2012.
The role will be expected to be part of the Finance IT support team and report directly to the Manager of the Finance IT support & Change team.
The individual is expected to work closely with all the Finance business teams and with the Central IT support function in ISTD.
Detailed Description
You will be required to:
Provide in-house Cognos expertise.
Experience of developing new Cognos reports and enhancements to existing reports for business areas.
Experience of providing Cognos support, debugging and fixing live issues.
Ensure all new developments for Cognos are developed, tested and signed off by the business users.
Understand best practice (Cognos Development standards) and change lifecycle.
Strong business analysis skills.
Lead the maintenance change program (covering other Finance IT systems)
Work with the central IT function in ensuring that resources and environments are being actively managed and co-ordinated to deliver the required change.
Job Requirements
Strong technical skills, with experience of writing and amending Cognos reports.
The ability to analyse business area requirements and present viable solutions.
This role would be best suited to someone with experience in identifying issues with reports and presenting opportunities for improvements.
In addition to multi-tasking you will be experienced in supporting business areas with project implementation, impact analysis and ad-hoc queries.
Communication:
You will need to be comfortable liaising with staff at all levels and take on differing amounts of responsibility.
You will be comfortable writing reports / delivering tasks and making recommendations.
Teamworking:
You will need to demonstrate your ability to work as part of team, playing differing roles depending on the exercise / assignment.
You will be expected to spend time mentoring and advising, when necessary other members of staff.
It is essential that all changes are documented and that knowledge is shared with other members of the Finance support team.
Interpersonal awareness:
As you will be working with other parts of the bank and with external parties, you must be able to demonstrate that you are confident representing the views of the department and Bank.
You must be self motivated and be able to work under your own initiative.
The successful applicant will need to be organised, responsible, be capable of working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
